That one word sums up the problems we have in today's world. What set me off was last Saturday I was at the Natural Health Food store, browsing. They had many samples out for people to taste and one sample was a 'natural' crustable. For the unknowing, it is a pre-made, frozen, round peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich. Now, I ask you, how can you be too busy to make a PB&J sandwich? And if it is for your child, if you let them use the toaster alone, they can handle making a sandwich. It is insane to think that we need pre-made PB&J sandwiches that are popped into the toaster to eat. And now it comes in a 'natural' version?
Okay, I feel better know that I have spoken on this topic.
"So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth." Revelation 3:16.

Procrastinating
I am supposed to be working on a paper. I don't want to, so I am surfing and goofing off. But it's okay, no one is home to notice. That's because my husband went to a friend's house to watch the football games and our man/boy son is at work. Come to think about it, I haven't seen my son in days. I did talk to him on the phone. He needed my quinoa recipe for a lunch party.
So, what is the paper about? Well, I have to identify and reflect on a social policy issue. I thought about immigration laws, but that is to big for 8-10 pages. Abortion is overdone, plus I do not need to analyse this issue, it's wrong, wrong, wrong. Reading the law will not change my mind.
At one time I was an abstinence educator, wonderful job, absolutely loved almost everything about it. Just didn't like that our Catholic schools in our diocese didn't want to let us in to teach the program, that's the only thing I didn't like. So, I am going to look at abstinence education, specifically in Florida (where I live) and why it is necessary and important. I also have to look at laws and legislation, but I have some info based on a grant I worked on.
Wish me luck.

Today's funny comment during the homily: "I could never understand why John the Baptist was Baptist and not Catholic." That was our priest's thought when he was a child.
Tonight we have Matt Maher in concert at our parish. It will be a great show, I'm sure of it. His music is so uplifting. I need a lift!

As of Monday, January 7, 2008 I am no longer a DRE but the Director of Stewardship. The response has been interesting from friends and parishioners. Many think it is a promotion. I do not; more of a lateral move. Also, I am still responsible for Adult Formation programs, since the children's programs have grown tremendously in the time I have been DRE. Eventually, we will have a person in charge of adult formation. When depends on how well I do my job with stewardship.
So what is stewardship? The understanding that all we have and are is a gift from God and that we respond in love to that gift.
