For various reasons, this season of Advent is carrying more weight for me than usual. I have had many thoughts floating in my head as to how to celebrate this season in a meaningful way. Now that the children are adults and not here for the most part, the ways we used to mark the season seem, well, childish. So what to do, how to prepare are the questions on my heart.
I have decided to focus a bit more on the penitential nature of the season. I will restrict my TV watching, get up early to read and pray every morning, and have a simple eating plan. I will go to confession at least once, Adoration once a week, and pray for those whom I do not like.
My specific reading material is "In Conversation with God, Daily Meditations, Vol 1" by Francis Fernandez, my Little Blue Book for Advent (provided by our Pastor), the Magnificat and the Bible.
I'll also pray the Immaculate Conception Novena and take part in our parish's Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration.
It is my prayer that by entering fully into this season the heaviness and distance I feel from God shall be eased so I can welcome our Savior with a heart of hope and love.

Is the blue book from Bishop Untener of the Diocese of Saginaw?
Yes, it is. We get them for Advent and Lent.
