7 Quick Takes about Joy, being nice, Polish proverbs and prayer bags

1.  Since last Friday lots of very good things have happened in regard to my husband's recovery.  His PICC line was removed which means he no longer has IV antibiotics, his last hyperbaric treatment is today and we have a date to remove the external fixator and pins.  Tuesday he's going back to work.  On now to the dance of joy:

2.  You know the dance of joy, no?  From Perfect Strangers, a sit-com from the 1986 - 1993.  Loved that show. Seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix.  What ever happened to sit-coms?  Oh yea, now we have reality TV so we can watch other people's lives and either be thankful we aren't like them or  wish we were like them.  This is why every time we discuss tv, we decide against it.

3.  I've spent way too much time this week being annoyed at people being rude.  I don't understand it all.  I know I'm rude sometimes, especially if I have to deal with people who want their way and are being difficult or lying to me when they want my help.  I will say though, that rudeness in your professional work is not acceptable and to be rude in an email is not a good idea.  Along with rudeness is the air of superiority that subtly conveys you think I don't know what you are talking about; don't you feel silly when I do?  You probably don't because you are so wrapped up in yourself you don't see others at all, which is why you are rude to begin with. Are people rude because they are soooooooooo busy?  I know many, many genuinely busy people who are not rude. They are not rude, they know it's not all about them.  I think that is the key.  We need a campaign to stop rudeness.

4.

5.  Have you heard the phrase "Not my circus, not my monkeys" that is said to be a Polish proverb.  Well, I checked it out with my Polish friend and he said it is; but not used much over in Poland.  I told him it's all over Pinterest and Facebook.  He also told me how to say it in Polish, but I think I'll stick with the English.

6.  I am making up "prayer bags" for each faith formation class.  Each week a different child will take the bag home and use what's in it to set up a little rayer space at home and pray with their family.  I saw the idea somewhere and really liked it.  So far the bags will contain: a statue of a saint or Mary, prayer card to match statue, rosary CD and pamphlet, LED candle, rosaries, a Catholic talk on CD (for parents) and a cloth to use for displaying the items.  I'll also include suggestions for how to use everything.  What else could go into the bags?

7. This is a busy sacrament weekend.    Tomorrow three men will be ordained to the Permanent Diaconate for the  Diocese of Palm Beach.  After five yeas of formation the day has arrived.  Excited, pleased and proud for and of them.  Then Sunday we have Confirmation as well as two adults coming into the Church.  The Holy Spirit will be moving!

Accidents happen

Yesterday's plan was fun and relaxation; an all day date was planned.  And it went awry.  We decided to take a drive to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, about two hours away.  Rain was in the forecast but it's Florida, there's always rain in the forecast.  Sometimes it's raining in Jupiter and not in Palm Beach Gardens, so we figured we'd go anyway.
Off we go, pray the rosary as we begin and then just chatting.  We get off the turnpike and it starts to drizzle.  Then pour.  I pull out my new phone and check the weather map.  Not looking good at all. By now it's pouring even harder but we are on a two lane road with no place to turn around.  Finally we are able to turn and I remark that we are close to the outlet mall and he says, "I was thinking that too" so combined with his comment the day before that he needed new shoes - we go East!  (An aside, he never says things like "I need new shoes"; is that what he learned in seminary?)
We both score shoes.  But the rain seems to have moved with us and the mall is indoors, all the stores open out.  We pop into another store and get a few things we needed.  We get back into the car and decide to stop shopping and go to a late lunch at a Greek restaurant we like.  We had a great lunch.
spinach pie, green beans, gyro platter; leftovers yum!
white wine sangria

It's still raining. A pick up truck is driving erratically and we maneuver around him and lose him.  As we are stopped at a red light, we get hit, hard from behind.  I hear glass shattering before I feel the impact and all of a sudden we are across the intersection.  I find my phone and call 911.  I tell the woman where we are, that no one seems hurt, and briefly what happened.  Then she transfers me to someone else and I repeat it all again.  She is very nice and makes sure I am okay before she gets off the phone with me.  I realize I cannot catch my breath and my heart is beating very fast and I am shaking.  But I'm coherent, my neck moves in all the directions it should and there's no blood so I figure I'm good.  John is in the same condition.  The police get there, along with two other rescue trucks.  The ask us questions, we answer.  I get out of the car because I can't sit still, not caring about the rain.  I have an umbrella but it is covered in glass in the back seat so I don't bother with it.
One of the firemen cut off part of our bumper so it won't drag or scrape the tire so we can drive home.  Another one gets our shopping bags out of the trunk and I put them in the back seat.
John gives the police the pertinent information and finds the registration.  The driver of the truck, a Ford F150 with extended cab, comes over and asks if we are okay. It's the same guy who we were trying to avoid!
The police have us move into a parking lot.  We sit there a long time before the policeman gives our documents back and the accident report and a card with his name and a case number and website.
In the meantime we look at the truck which is parked with the side that hit us facing us and it looks like there is no damage at all.  And my car is a mess.
We are okay, but I know that may change as the day progresses.  The car, well, it's repairable I hope or else replaceable, but what a pain!

Mass Changes

It has been four months and some since we have had the changes in the liturgy.  I have a question for you all you Mass goers out there who notice something strange going on.  What is this strange thing, people are still not getting it!  And they don't seem to notice that they are not getting it!
I go to Mass on Sundays and a few days during the week.  I often see the same people at daily Mass and I hear them, out of step with the rest of us who say "And with your spirit" and "It is right and just."  What is the problem?  Day in, day out do you not notice you are saying something different than the rest of us?  Do you wonder why us poor schlups are using those silly cards to pray the Creed or the Mystery of Faith?  You don't need no stikin' card, you know your prayers.  I'm here to tell you , you don't know them and it is irritating me that you can't get with the program and use the card so the mumbling can stop and we can all be one again.
There, all done, it's off my chest and out of my brain.
Why can't you?
